"I saw a peanut stand, heard a rubber band, I saw a needle that winked its eye. But I think I will have seen everything when I see an 'octopus' fly." Major points if you can remember what movie that's from. Octopus are known for their ability to disguise themselves and evade predators. We've had to learn many tricks over the years that help us find octopus so that we can photograph them. When we spotted this one, he was quick to hide in a hole underneath some coral but, unbeknownst to him, there was an eel hiding in that very hole. Excited about the free meal, the eel took a bite on the octopus's tentacle, which caused the octopus to ink and flee. Being highly intelligent, the octopus actually swam towards us knowing that the eel would be too scared to follow and we were able to capture its magnificent color display contrasted against the clear blue ocean in the background. If you look real close, specifically at the end of all his tentacles you can see how most are all curled up at the end all except for the one on the upper right side which is missing the curl...luckily, it will grow back. "Now I've Seen Everything" is one of our favorite and most defining images. Dan talks about the story in the video below.
